Helping your children create a love of reading is one of the greatest gifts you can give them. Together we must be committed to developing within students the desire to become lifetime readers. The key is enjoyment. Students should be encouraged to read any type of printed materials such as magazines, newspapers, or books.
Overview: We will follow the Harcourt Storytown Curriculum this school year. Students will focus on skills and strategies with each new story. We will cover many different genres and types of literature as we travel through our stories! Each story will have a written assessment.
Homework: Students will be required to read for 20 minutes 5 out of 7 nights each week (unless we have a shortened week). They will record the book they are reading and a parent signature will be needed each night read. The book logs do count toward students' grades. Book logs are due on Monday (or the first day of the school week). Late book logs will lose 1 point each day they are late.
